How to make your own oat milk

Over the last few years the rise of plant-based milks has been astronomical, with one in three Britons now opting to drink plant-based alternatives over traditional cow's milk. These consumer habits have been reflected across wider society too; in supermarkets it's now commonplace to see dedicated aisles to milk alternatives, while in coffee shops plant-based alternatives are proudly displayed atop counters.

With rising concerns over the environmental impact of cow's milk, and also a growing mood that plant-based milks are actually a healthier option all together, new alternative milks are popping up constantly. Be it coconut, almond, hazelnut, tiger nut, hemp, pea or soya, the alternative milk industry is growing so fast it has been dubbed 'white gold'. However, while new nuts and grains are seemingly being milked and squeezed all over the world on a daily basis, it is the humble oat that has risen quickest to the top of the pile. Lauded for its creaminess and how well it works in coffees and cooking, while also scoring much better than its plant-based competitors on sustainability and environmental impact, oat milk is here to stay.

One downside to alternative milks is often the price tag, commonly costing more than cow's milk for less volume. However, not everyone knows that oat milk is cheap, easy and sustainable to make yourself. That's why we've put together this quick oat milk recipe that takes less than 10 minutes of prep time, why not give making your own a go? Delicious, quick and incredibly cheap, this recipe gets a ten out of ten from us!
