Natco Powa is a brand that sells rice flakes available in the market, especially in the United Kingdom through Red Rickshaw. Powa is a type of rice that has been parboiled, rolled, flattened, and dried to produce flakes, hence the term “rice flakes.” It comes in different thickness depending on the pressure that has been put to it during the process of making it. It is a very popular ingredient of Asian flaked rice recipe and many Asians eat it in their diurnal living. INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups powa
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil or any preferred oil
  • 1 tbsp mustard seeds
  • 5 to 6 curry leaves
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 large potato
  • Peanuts with skins removed
  • A pinch of turmeric
  • ½ juiced lime
  • Salt to taste
  • Chopped coriander
  • Optional: 2 green chillies

PROCEDURE

  1. Put the powa in a sieve and wash with running water for 2 minutes.
  2. Keep it aside to drain.
  3. Heat pan with the oil in medium heat and add the mustard seeds, curry leaves, and green chillies.
  4. Fry until the spluttering stops and add the onion. Fry until soft and translucent.
  5. Add the peanuts and potatoes and frequently stir for 2 to 3 minutes.
  6. Drain the powa to remove all water and add it to the aforementioned mix. Add the turmeric powder and stir well to mix the ingredients.
  7. Cook for another minute and turn the heat off. Then, pour the lime juice over the powa and mix well.
  8. Garnish with chopped coriander and serve.
