Ingredients

  • Chayote
  • Carrot
  • Salt
  • Sugar
  • White vinegar
  • Water

Preparation method

  1. Remove the skin of both chayote and carrot. Wash and start shredding. 
  2. Shred one item at a time.
  3. Mix shredded carrot and chayote. Afterwards, add vinegar, salt, sugar and some water to the mixture. 
  4. Stir until both sugar and salt dissolve.
  5. This recipe is best served with rice, sandwiches and dipping sauces, among others.

Pickled Chayote Salad

Ingredients

  • Chayote
  • Sugar
  • Ground black pepper
  • Olive oil
  • Vegetable oil
  • Distilled white vinegar
  • Sliced red onion
  • Dried Oregano
  • Sea salt

How to prepare

  1. Boil chayote in a pot with water under medium heat for thirty minutes.
  2. Drain the water from the pot once chayote is ready. Peel the ready chayote before cutting crosswise. 
  3. Mix sugar, oregano, black pepper, salt and vinegar in a bowl before stirring 
  4. Add chopped onions to the mixture. Stir for a few minutes and set aside for ten minutes. 
  5. Spread the mixture on top of the sliced and ready chayote. Mix well and leave alone for a few minutes before enjoying the dish.
