Made from fermented soybeans, doenjang is a paste that adds a salty and umami flavour to Asian foods.

Doenjang is different to miso for a number of reasons, doenjang has a chunkier texture than miso which is often smooth. Also, doenjang is normally fermented for at least six weeks while miso can be fermented for just one.
