Fudco Brown Mustard Seeds (Rai) 100g

The small round seeds of many mustard plants are known as mustard seeds. They vary in colour, and are available in yellow and brown. Each seed is about one to two millimetres in diameter. As a whole, they do not have any fragrance or flavour. The flavour of mustard seeds is released when they are crushed or roasted. These are winter crops and are grown all around the world. Mustard has many uses in both culinary and medicinal aspects.

Yellow Mustard Seed (Sarson): These seeds have a mild taste and are used in the making of the American yellow mustard paste (light yellow seeds) and the Dijon mustard (dark yellow seeds). It is believed that the ancient Romans were the first to grind mustard seeds into paste and use it as a condiment.

Brown Mustard Seed (Rai): These seeds have a pungent, bitter flavour, and are stronger than their yellow counterparts.

Storage of Mustard Seed: Mustard seeds do not require refrigeration. They have amazing antibacterial properties that allow them to retain their freshness for a long time, without sprouting mould or mildew. However, care should be taken to store them in an airtight glass jar, and placed in a cool, dry and dark place.

Health Benefits of Mustard Seed: Mustard seeds include high levels of the phytonutrients called glucosinolates. These help prevent gastrointestinal cancer.

Mustard seeds are a rich source of minerals and vitamins, specifically Vitamin E, which helps the body to get rid of free radicals, and keeps the skin fresh and young.

Mustard seeds are also a great source for the B-complex vitamins. These vitamins are not produced by the body, but areessential in many of the body’s functions. For instance, it is used in the regulation of the body’s metabolism, to improve the functions of the nervous system, and to synthesize enzymes.
